Why this is important:
This program provides access and choice to Iowa families pursuing higher education. Students who receive tuition grants are able to attend private colleges and universities that best serve their individual needs. Two separate appropriations fund grants to students at not-for-profit and for-profit institutions. The grants help reduce reliance on student loans.
What we’re doing about this:
The College Student Aid Commission advocates for assistance that provides access to higher education opportunities in Iowa.

The College Student Aid Commission supports access to and awareness of college opportunities for students and their families throughout Iowa. The IHaveaPlanIowa Web Portal is a tool that promotes these objectives.
What we’re doing about this:
The IHaveaPlanIowa Web Portal provides support for Iowans transitioning between levels of schooling and between school and work. The web portal integrates resources provided by the Iowa College Student Aid Commission, the Iowa Department of Education and Iowa Workforce Development related to academic preparation for college, college financial aid, career planning, and job-seeking.

Why this is important:
Borrowers who default on student loans, delay full participation in the community, and struggle to make ends meet. Those who do not repay student loans are subject to additional fees and unfavorable credit reports. They need personal attention and support materials.
What we’re doing about this:
The Iowa College Student Aid Commission provides a comprehensive referral and support program to assist borrowers who are at risk of default. Participants receive individualized counseling and money management tools. The Iowa Outfitters Program provides many tools to assist borrowers.
